スプラウト・キュレーションのこけら落とし、記念すべき第1回目の展覧会として、榎倉冴香・個展『Pink Ashtray（ピンク・アッシュトレイ）』を開催いたします。

榎倉冴香は2005年多摩美術大学美術学科絵画科（油画専攻）を卒業。その後、プライヴェート・ギャラリーでの個展や、エマージング・アーティストによるグループ展などを中心に、精力的に作品を発表してきました。多彩な技法による絵画や彫刻作品、また具象と抽象の軽やかな横断を特長とする榎倉が、これまで一貫してテーマとしてきた対象は「弱き者」たちだと言えるかもしれません。そしてそれが、現代という困難な時代を生きる私たち自身の投影であることは、容易に想像ができます。しかし近作に於いて、「弱き者」たちは、決して自らの弱さを嘆くことはありません。繊細に、ときにはユーモラスに振る舞う、知恵ある「弱き者」と、その多様性が紡ぐ物語は、観る者の心の内に新しいユートピアを作り出します。彼女はその物語のストーリーテラーなのです。

遡れば90年代。「大きな物語＝イデオロギー」に代わって登場したのが「小さな物語＝私への回帰」でした。しかし榎倉の描く世界観は、そのどちらとも異なる新しい時代の物語です。それは、豊かな想像力に満ちたイメージとしての物語空間であり、 鑑賞者が自由に往来する、開かれた新しいトポスとして「共生＝コモン」の時代を予兆させるのです。

また、本展のタイトル Pink Ashtray《ピンク・アッシュトレイ》は、 いったん描き始めた画の上に、まったく違うイメージをあとから重ねて描いていくという、遊び心にあふれた手法に因んでいます。あとから重ねられる新しいイメージに、完全に覆い隠されることなく、微かに残った下層のイメージやマチエールが、またさらに新しいイメージへと繋がっていくと榎倉は言います。 下層に描かれていたイメージの断片が「ピンクの灰皿」となって、過ぎ去った時間から再び画中に立ち現れたことは、美しい偶然の贈り物の象徴であり、こうした偶然の連鎖が、物語に一層の興味を付与しています。

榎倉冴香にとって、本格的な個展としては初となる本展では、大小のオイル・ペインティングとドローイング、エディションを併せて展示いたします。どうぞご高覧くださいませ。

As a commemorable first exhibition at Sprout Curation, we will hold Saeka Enokura’s solo exhibition "Pink Ashtray"

After graduating from Tama Art University (majored in oil painting) in 2005, Saeka Enokura has presented vigorously her works mostly in her solo exhibition at private galleries and group exhibitions with emerging artists.

Multiple techniques, seen in her paintings and sculptures as well as light crossing of figuration and abstraction as her strong points, an object of her consistent theme might be “weak ones”. We can simply imagine that the object is a projection of ourselves living in the present age.However, in recent work, these “weak ones” are never grave over own weakness. “Weak ones” behaving delicately and occasionally comically and it’s diverse narrative create a new utopia inside of viewer’s mind. She is the story teller of the narrative.

Back in 90’s, instead of “Master Narratives= ideology”, “Small Narratives= self recurrence” was introduced but the vision she evokes is different from any those narratives. It is a narrative of new age. Also its space is filled with rich imagination and will be appreciated as a new open topos which viewers can pass freely.

The title for this exhibition Pink ashtray is associated with her usual technique full of playfulness; an image once painted is layered by the completely different images later on. Enokura says that the image and its matière in the base, without being fully covered by layers painted over, will continue to a new image. Fragments of images painted in the lower layers  become “pink ashtray” and appear again in a painting.This is a symbol of a beautiful accident. Such chain of accidents gives more interest to her narrative.

At this her first complete solo exhibition, large and small scale oil paintings, drawings and edition works will be exhibited.
