Curator’s Statement
歴史はひとつではない。ひとたび世界史を俯瞰すれば、被害者と加害者、勝者と敗者は、 立場を入れ替えながら複雑に絡み合い、ちっぽけな個は瞬く間にそのアイデンティティを見失うだろう。だから時の為政者たちによって恣意的に歪曲化された「ひとつの歴史」を共有することでしか、世界はとりあえずの均衡すら保つことが出来ない。
ゴダールの『アワーミュージック』は、敗者/勝者を考える意味で示唆的な映画だ。その中で、 主人公オルガやパレスチナの詩人を借りたゴダールの発する言葉は、日本語字幕であるが故に、むしろその私の網膜により強烈に焼き付いた。
「勝利より敗北の中にこそより多くの示唆と人間性が存在する。
喪失の中にこそ偉大な詩は生まれる。
...
もし私が勝利者の側にいたら敗北への連帯を表明しただろう。
...
詩をもたない民族は打ち負かされた民族だ。」
...
「無から築き上げよ。
火事のとき家具を運ぶのは馬鹿げている。
敗者としての幸運をつかむのだ。」
この映画は、サラエヴォを題材としているが、我々日本人に置き換えることは容易だし、それは許されるはずだ。とすれば、敗者である我々にとっての幸運とは何であるのか? 私はこの小さな展覧会でそれを問うてみたいと思った。
追記:私はこの展覧会のタイトルを当初文字通り「私たちの音楽」としようともしたが、敬 愛するアーティスト南川史門が同じタイトルで先に個展を行った。私はこのシンクロニシティに苦笑しつつ、タイトルの変更を余儀なくさせられ、改めてのタイトルを「V」とさせて頂いた。(志賀)
There is no one fixed way of viewing history. Once we look back at world history, there is always structural changes between the winner and the defeated. Intricately intertwined, individuals lose their identity in no time. Therefore, the world won't even maintain it's tentative balance without having shared a "common history" which has been arbitrarily distorted by the authorities of the times.
Considering the relationship between the winner and the defeated, Godard's " Our music" can be said to be suggestive. In his movie, the words that Godard expressed by borrowing the words of the protagonist "Olga" and a poet of Palestine, because of it's visuality of japanese scripts, was drastically printed on my retina.
"There's more inspiration and humanity.
In defeat than there is in victory.
Even in defeat there is poetry.And probably better poetry.
...
If I belonged to the victor's camp…
...
I'd demonstrate my support for the victims.
...
People who don't have poetry is the defeated.”
...
"We have to make do with very little.
If the house is already on fire.
It's mad to try to save the furniture.
The lucky ones are the defeated. "
This film focus on Sarajevo's situation today which we as japanese with similar historical background can project ourselves into.
What is our happiness as the defeated? I will ask the question by curating this exhibition.
Added: At first, I decided the title of this exhibition as "Our music", however, I found that my respected artist Shimon Minamikawa had exhibited with the same title in first. Smiling wryly, I was compelled to change it to "V".
