C.G.ユングの「集合的無意識」と、マイケル・ポランニーの「暗黙知」は同義ではないにせよ、生まれたばかりの赤ん坊が母乳を求める、蜘蛛が巣を張る、など、誰からも教わることなく得る「智」の存在を探求したものでした。しかしそれらはいつしかフリンジ・サイエンスの辺境に追いやられ、すべては「本能」ということで片が付いてしまった感があります。

ところが、今のところDNAに「本能」らしき情報が予め書き込まれている形跡は全く見つかっていないのだそうです。それどころか、量子論が導くように、物質がエネルギーであるならば、私たちの脳内ニューロンで起こる電気的エネルギーのシグナル、つまり「思考」ですら世界を満たす物質の一部であり、それらが無限に結びついた「智」と「想」のマトリックスの存在は、やはり何かしらあるのではないか？　そして人間が神を模倣する不遜な存在だとすれば、インターネット、とりわけ昨今のクラウド・コンピューティングやSNSなどは「集合的無意識」「暗黙知」など呼び方はどうであれ、まさにこうしたマトリックスの幼形ではないかとさえ思えてくるのです。

「私たちの夢想は、この「智」と「想」のマトリックスを通して、どこかで誰かと繋がっているのではないか」。たとえそれが空想であれ、ちょっと楽しい空想ではないでしょうか？

《夢で逢いましょう。（See me in the dream）》展は、形象の境界をあえて不明瞭に描く、アンビギュアスなイメージを特集する企画です。絵画そして写真、それらは単にアトモスフェリックな抽象表現であるばかりでなく、作品の深部で起こる濃密なトーンの変化、慎重に計算されたマチエールからは、ミステリアスで、官能的なイメージが世界へと滲み出し、観る者を法悦と夢想の旅へ誘います。そしてその夢想から覚醒したとき、それまでとは違う新しい現実との邂逅を期待させるのです。

本展は、これまでメーンストリームのテーマとして取り上げられることが少なかった、こうしたアンビギュアスな作品群を一堂にすることで、作家たちがあえて形象の境界を曖昧にするその意図を探り、またその魅力を検証する、貴重な機会となるでしょう。

C.G. Jung’s ‘collective unconscious’ and Michael Polanyi’s ‘tacit knowledge’ are not synonymous theories, yet both search for a certain kind of untaught, inherited wisdom: a baby asking for milk or a spider forming his nest. Jung and Polanyi’s theories were pushed out of the academic mainstream into fringe science, and the word instinct came to fore as a blanket term.

There has, however, been no evidence found that instinct is inscribed in DNA. Furthermore, as quantum theory posits, if all materials are a flow of electronic energy signals sparking even our brain neurons and forming our thoughts, then these thoughts too are a part of the material composition of the world. Can we not say that there is a matrix of knowledge and imagination in which those energies combine? Moreover, if the internet—especially the recent cloud-computing systems—resemble larva of this matrix, in which human beings are haughty enough to even try imitating god, one begins to see this as referential to ‘collective unconscious’ and ‘tacit knowledge’.

One may think: Are not all of our dreams connected through this matrix of wisdom and imagination? Even if just a fancy, is it not amusing?

‹‹See me in the dream›› features ambiguous works expressing the unclear boundaries of figures. Photos and pictures are atmospheric, abstract expressions that introduce viewers to religious exaltation and dreams vis-à-vis mysterious, sensuous images derived from shifts in tone and intricately composed materials. This is an invitation for spectators to travel through ecstatic revelries, as if when woke from a dream and the world may be completely different from the previous one.

This exhibition is a precious opportunity, revealing the intention of artists to make boundaries unclear by gathering ambiguous works that have not been considered mainstream in much of the contemporary art scene.
